SCIENCE OF LIVING

The Science of Living here is referred here to that science which helps to improve the quality of life of humans on our planet.

Since an increase of human happiness is the most essential aspect of improving the quality of life of humans, methods to increase material prosperity and living standards of humans is only the lesser part of Science of Living. This is because happiness has to be experienced by our inner emotional apparatus, and if that is deficient then happiness can never be achieved howsoever great our material achievements.

An attempt to improve our inner selves immediately takes us either to an alcoholic cocktail (a method we know is temporary and eventually harmful) or to spiritual practice. Therefore the study of spiritual science is an essential aspect of the Science of Living. We realize soon that without fundamental values like Love, Truth and Simplicity happiness is not possible.

Traditionally, spiritual knowledge has been imparted by religions. However, a total dependence on religious knowledge is something that does not appeal to all persons, especially scientific persons. The reason is that religion contains much more besides ethics and spirituality. It also has ritual, mythology and often a demand for blind faith and acceptance of some of its percepts.

Thus, although the Science of Living benefits immensely from the spiritual knowledge as discovered by different religious schools, it retains the freedom to accept this knowledge selectively and from sources of several religions, not just one. The essential characteristics of the Science of Living as described here are:

  1. All of the beliefs of science of living are open to revision on the basis of new evidence or arguments

  1. All of the postulates of Science of living attempt to conform to logical thinking as in the sciences.

  1. Just as scientific reasoning demands that we keep all our beliefs open to revision, it also demands that we keep our mind open to possibilities and postulates e.g. reincarnation, soul and God if they are not in violation of known scientific principles, even if scientific evidence has not yet been found for the same.
